Membership Criteria

By applying to be a member you are certifying that you are not a prosecutor. Prosecutors are not eligible to become Te Matakahi members nor to participate in Te Matakahi CLE events, nor to purchase its educational products.

If you wish to become a member but are part of a Crown panel, you may apply for a general membership below. Please specify that you are part of a Crown panel and your membership application will be considered.

Membership Type

In order to join or renew membership to Te Matakahi, you will need to fill out a form and make payment of the annual membership fee online.  Please select the membership that applies to you.

General membership

This membership is available to any person currently working in New Zealand in the conduct of criminal defence work - Excluding the Public Defence Service

Examples: Private bar defence lawyer, law clerk, duty solicitors, a mixed practise that conducts defence work

Public Defence Service membership

This membership is available to any lawyer employed by the Public Defence Service.

Information provided may be used to verify your status as a PDS employee.

PLEASE NOTE:

Te Matakahi reserves the right to decline any applications for membership if the membership criteria is not met. In the event that your application is declined, we will contact you to arrange a refund of the membership fee.

Privacy

When you apply, we collect your personal information in order to verify that you are eligible to become a member of Te Matakahi and to keep records of our members. We are obliged to comply with the Privacy Act 1993
